Leaving your family in your home country while pursuing studies in Australia can be challenging. You can always add your family members as dependents under your student visa after being granted within the visa tenure.
The Student Subsequent Entrant (Student Dependent Visa) Subclass 500 allows your dependents to accompany you in Australia while you pursue your studies.
Visa Eligibility Criteria
- You must hold a valid student visa.
- You can include only your partner and children.
- All family members must be declared in the student visa application.
- If added later, family unit details must have existed before the primary visa grant.
- Children must be unmarried and under 18 years of age.
- Dependents must hold Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the entire visa period.
- You must meet financial requirements for one year, including your family.
- Dependents must meet Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) criteria.
- Medical examinations must be undertaken.
- Character requirements must be met.
* Failure to disclose family member details may result in visa refusal.
Student Subsequent Entrant Visa Processing Time
Once the application is submitted and documents are uploaded, the processing time is approximately 5–8 months. (Timelines may vary.)
Student Visa Application Fee (AUD)
- Student Subsequent Entrant Application Fee: AUD 700
- Additional Applicant (18+): AUD 460
- Additional Applicant (Under 18): AUD 150
* Additional costs may include OSHC, biometrics, health checks, and police clearance.
Visa Conditions
- 8201: Maximum three months of study permitted.
- 8104: Work allowed only after primary student commences course (max 40 hours/fortnight).
- 8501: Maintain adequate health insurance.
- 8516: Continue to meet eligibility requirements.
